E Paint Partners with Solo Sailor Bruce Schwab to Promote Green Boating Maintenance

Published: May 15, 2006

E Paint Company is pleased to announce its partnership with solo around-the-world sailor Bruce Schwab. The goal of this partnership is to promote "green boating maintenance"" through hands-on education programs offered by Schwab’s OceanPlanet Foundation.

E Paint produces safe, effective, non-toxic alternatives to traditional bottom paints. All E Paint products are free of copper and other biocides and are safe for the environment.

"The OceanPlanet Foundation and E Paint share the same passion for sustaining a healthy ocean ecosystem," said Alex Walsh, president and founder of E Paint. "OceanPlanet Foundation's commitment to using environmentally friendly products in its sailing programs aligns perfectly with our mission."

Green boating maintenance is cost effective and does not compromise performance. As the only American to finish the Vendee Globe around-the-world race -- solo, nonstop, and unassisted -- Schwab uses E Paint EP2000 on OceanPlanet for a fast, smooth, environmentally safe finish. EP2000 is E Paint's most environmentally friendly product; providing a hard, slick, racing finish with excellent antifouling properties.

In February 2005, after more than 3 months alone at sea, Schwab became the first American to complete the European-dominated Vendee Globe race. In doing so, he set the American round-the-world speed record at 109 days, 19 hours, 58 minutes, and 57 seconds. In December 2005, Schwab announced his goal to build OceanPlanet II for the 2008 Vendee Globe.

E Paint was established in 1991 to market environmentally friendly coatings, with a specialty in coatings that control biofouling. The research arm of E Paint, Cape Cod Research, began developing antifouling coatings with funding from the Navy in 1985. Since that time, the company has been awarded numerous contracts to research novel methods of biofouling control. E Paint has developed specialty antifouling coatings for the United States Coast Guard, United States Navy, and a number of oceanographic institutions. The company has several products registered with the EPA and others under development.
